Recognizing the Call to Serve Internationally

Meet Olivia. In March, Olivia participated in her first-ever mission trip to Léogâne, Haiti. As a senior in high school, Olivia decided she wanted to do something different over her spring break and recognized her call to go. Follow along as we share Olivia's journey that led her to Haiti.

The Beauty in Simplicity

My name is Leah and my youth group from Our Savior Lutheran Church has been on three Week of Hope mission trips over the last four years. In English class this past year, I was assigned to write a memoir about a life-changing experience I have had.

My Mission trip Enlightenment

Before coming on this trip, I really did not want to go at all! I thought, "Man this is gonna suck, I'm not gonna meet anyone new, and I'm gonna be super bored." My mom said I should at least go once to give it a try, so I was forced to come regardless.

Restored on The Road

It's been incredible to serve God and His people in California for the past week! I could never have imagined completing the various tasks we've tackled, i.e. completely transforming an overgrown plot and cultivating it into a blessing for its community.

God in every thing in every day

Before going to Peru this July, I did not know what I would experience. I had never been on a mission trip before so I was very nervous. I could not imagine the way I saw God move. Doing God sightings everyday helped me discover God moving every day.

Pursuing an All-In Faith

I recently served on a Group Workcamp in Busby, MT. I haven't had the best experience on past mission trips and started out the week with a negative attitude.

The second I met my crew things changed. I saw God's light radiate from them and decided to turn my frown upside down.

Stepping Out of Comfort

Each year at Group Workcamps I always come back with a different way of growing closer to God. On my third Group workcamp, I grew closer to God in many ways. The residents, crew, and other participants were the ones who gave me such a memorable experience.

The Little Things Always make a Difference

People have always said, "It's the little things in life that count," and that is true with any Group Workcamps experience. Waking up every morning knowing you are going to change someone's life by just helping them get a room painted or fixing a porch or building a ramp is amazing.

My First Workcamps Experience

As my first mission trip, I did not know what to expect. But I can honestly say this was one of the best weeks of my life. I met so many kind, new, amazingly wonderful people on this trip and each person had a different impact they made. My work crew was truly incredible.

Confidence Built Through Grit

I had a beautiful journey throughout the week, serving in Burtonsville, Maryland, at a senior home.  I have anxiety normally, but being in an environment of Christian love and mutual encouragement helped me to build my confidence and trust in my faith in a deeper way.  God put this vers

How I Found my Purpose at Group Workcamps

During my Workcamp, I kept asking God to show me how to "step out of the boat" and to present me with opportunities to serve him. Nothing ever came up, and I was worried that God would never give me an answer.

A Life-Changing Weekend

This summer I had the opportunity to venture out with my youth group to New Paris, Ohio. We traveled in our van for 8 hours from New York. Throughout this mission trip, I saw God in innumerable ways, so many it is hard not to name them all here.

What Group Mission Trips Means

Each year that I have attended a Week of Hope camp it always ends the same, a changed life or lives in our youth group. This year is no different! As we traveled to Grand Rapids, I prayed the camp would be as good as Kenosha last year, and it didn't disappoint.

Do I really enjoy camp at my age?

A friend messaged me and asked me if I really enjoyed camp at my age. Here's my answer: Do I truly enjoy sleeping on an air mattress on the floor? No. Do I truly enjoy locker room showers and camp food? No.

The Garden of Weeden

I had the privilege of being a crew leader for Crew #7 on the San Diego Week of Hope trip (July 9th-15th).

Anchor in a Storm

Among the many great experiences from the Week of Hope in San Diego, one of the best was making deeper connections with the members of our youth group and leadership. We are soon going to enter a season of transition in Youth Ministry leadership.

Witness to God's Love

My group served the week of June 24-29th in Charleston, SC. About 3 months ago we got the news that my father had stage 4 colon cancer. It has been a long road with his choosing to not have treatments and enjoy life here with his family while he can.
