El Salvador is located in the beautiful mountains of Central America. With coffee plantations everywhere, the capital of San Salvador is located in a green valley that has so many amazing views. World-class beaches are less than an hour away, and the culture is full of people who love to interact with visitors to their country.
In spite of all its natural beauty, unfortunately, El Salvador is still suffering the effects of a 15-year civil war. After the conclusion of the war, many people emigrated to North America, and the economy in El Salvador weakened and became dependent on money being sent back to home by their family. Many young men who were brought illegally to the U.S. as children by their parents, have been deported back to El Salvador after becoming involved in gangs in the U.S. This has created problems in El Salvador.
This is where you come in! You will support efforts by local ministries as we come alongside them to work towards restoring hope in the lives of the young people who are the future of this beautiful country. During your week serving in El Salvador, you will have the opportunity to work with at-risk students who have grown up in poverty, helping to give them good life options to keep them from crime. You may spend time at a local orphanage or at an urban ministry led by U.S. missionaries and locals, where you and your group might engage in Vacation Bible School projects or community service projects. Your group may also participate in small construction projects at the orphanage and surrounding churches.
When you serve in El Salvador with Group International Mission Trips, you’ll have the chance to serve alongside a group of people who are providing Salvadorians every opportunity to rise above the circumstances they were born into. This global experience will grow your faith and expand your understanding of the complexity of poverty.

All U.S. citizens need a valid passport to enter a foreign country and return to the United States. It must be valid six months beyond your intended stay and have 1-2 blank pages remaining. A passport is not required for trips to Puerto Rico and Alaska. Visas are not required for most trips. For full information, please ask your mission trip planner at time of booking.
Most meals are covered as part of your registration, except for free days if you're serving in Alaska or Puerto Rico. Please see the detailed itinerary of your international trip for any exceptions.
Most meals will be provided by our ministry partners, who have been carefully trained to prepare safe and nutritious meals for our teams. You will get a taste of local food on all of our trips, and some locations will include American food as well.
While some mission trips are more physically strenuous than others, most international trips will include at least four 8-hour service days in hot and humid environments. Your group can work at the level of physical exertion with which they’re comfortable.
Your international mission trip covers gratuities for meals in restaurants that are included for the week. Gratuities for porters or housekeeping staff if you stay in a hotel during your trip are at your discretion. Airport porters who help with your bags will expect to be tipped $1-$2, and if you participate in a guided tour or fun activity on your free day, you may want to consider tipping your hired guide.
The safety of your group is a top priority for us, as we’re sure it is for you. In all the areas we serve, we take extra precautions to make sure you or your group is as safe as possible. Guided by our local, experienced ministry staff partners, we avoid situations that are inherently dangerous. We’re also proactive by choosing lodging facilities and transportation that are safe and reliable. Our International Mission Trip Advisor is glad to answer further safety questions.
